Sitting Birds Bowl
Bird lovers know many species mate for life after the briefest of encounters. This piece attempts to capture and immortalize such life transforming meetings. Each bird is handmade and unique. So you can invent their particular love story to tell admirers of your piece. Construction Notes: Many of our pieces feature animal forms. Small birds, rendered in two and three dimensions, appear in many. Three dimensional birds like in this bowl are built from six hand hammered parts: two for the body, one for the tail, one for the head, one for the neck and one for the beak . Once the all the pieces are made, the bird is assembled, soldered, joint imperfections filled, sanded, given two anti-rust coats of zinc chromate and given a hand washed pewter finish. Autumn Wreath Chandelier
The yin of Spring & the yang of Fall light your life. This lamp is inspired by the pre- Christian tradition of the Advent Wreath, famous for the golden colors of the fall leaves used in their construction. The original were assembled by gathering and shaping young evergreen branches into circular forms representing the cycles of nature and thus the hope of their makers for an early spring. Once finished, the original version of the wreath was lit by four candles Our version has eight lights for balance and illumination. Hang this over a dinning table, breakfast table, or in a sun room to lend an organic touch. Design Notes: The root of the coloring of our interpretation of the traditional wreath is ocher, a tint originally achieved by iron oxides mingled with varying amounts of clay and sand in yellow, brown and red. This treatment makes the colors and texture of our wreath appear to be the natural result of time and exposure to the elements. Construction Notes: The chandelier is made from one hollow iron rod which was hand forged to form the base for the lights and conduit for its electrical wires. The solid smaller rod forming the wreath's spiral cylinder is also one piece which was hand fired and shaped The hand cut leaves with hammered veins have a golden tone at the edge to evoke the turned tips of fall.
