As a 15 year furniture retail veteran at MigandTig.com, finding quality, comfortable dining chairs has been one of the most challenging categories to fill.
But, as I was walking down the street at the HighPoint Furniture market one season, the clouds opened up, the angels flew in and there she stood….Design Master…the Mothership of dining chairs. My prayers had been answered. The chase was over.
You see, I had given up at one point and thought, I am a small retailer… I will never find a great source for dining chairs like the big stores have. But, we must keep the faith.
Design Master produces their chairs in the US and customizes finishes, fabrics and trims. They are an organized company, provide excellent value and deliver timely. Jahaila Sing: “Hi, my name is Jahaila Sing. I was raised by my single mom, grandmother and aunt. I found myself passionate about design from very young. My mother has been an office floor planer/ project manager for 20 years. From I was a kid she would bring home floor plans; lay them out on the dinning room table and tell me to pull up a chair. I would watch her in awe as she explained the symbols and reasons for why the vise president and president needed to be moved on the floor plan. She would take me to showrooms and glide her hand slowly across beautiful pieces of furniture, explaining what made them special. Spaces and furniture design is something my mother and I share in common. I design in the passion that she brought to the dining room table and I strive to create beautiful pieces.
My inspiration were pieces that looked natural and clean lined.”

Hans of Shima Woodcraft owns and created the interior of his restaurant, Medici, in Normal, Illinois. Hans used Oak, Ash and Walnut which were environmentally harvested in a sustainable way from his land.
Many of the furniture designs are conceived by his Amish neighbors. Their religion discourages commercial enterprise and recognition, gratitude and accolades of their creations. Nevertheless, Hans has honored them with the name of his company, “Shima”, Amish…almost spelled backwards. 
Hans published a book available at Amazon.com called, “Common Sense Forestry”, for his first love…forestry. Check out more very cool, green and sustainable furniture by Shima Woodcraft.
