Deep, deep down I think every woman’s fantasy is Christopher Guy…..furniture! Some may not admit it, but I am going to take a leap and expose this underground classified information.

How could you not love the the elegant legs, scale and design?

With the elegance of Christopher Guy, you still are left with the impression that this line does not take itself to seriously. It is not stiff, rather it gently takes your attention so you can view it’s gracefulness.

Christopher Guy has his signature legs through out the line. Again, a wonderful design detail that reminds you of the elegance and playfulness of Christopher Guy.

Timeworks is a company that when we first opened Mig and Tig Furniture we picked up. Timeworks has grown, but still remains hands on, service driven and always ahead of the curve with their designs.

Timeworks has a broad line to choose from. Their pricepoints are excellent and offer the consumer great value.

One of the things I love about Timeworks is their packaging. If you are a gift giver the package just is an added bonus to the cool product they deliver.

Timeworks has the eye for replicating antique, cool product. Clocks are not mundane when see what Timeworks has to offer. Find out more about Timeworks and contact the woman in charge: ADunn@casabellaonline.com or 312.670.0760

Timeworks began with three brothers and an idea- to create a line of historically authentic clocks, which would be both affordable and functional. Timeworks clocks are made individually, by hand- most of them at their factory in Berkely, California.

This is a final Interior Design Thesis presentations in movie form, from different semesters and different students. In their final thesis presentation the student needs to show all the skills he learned at Harrington College. The students can choose a 30-50,000 square foot project of their choice for the portfolio. They are writing a client profile, collect information, get inspirations, research the direction of their project, create a concept, do the diagrams for a program, build a model, sketch, develop the project in floor plans, create sections, developed the space, 3 dimensional elements (like stairs/openings in the space) and do the renderings of the space. The students are writing an environmental statement of the project. They choose furniture, colors, contrasts, materials, and create a detail. The Students have to ’sell ‘the project to the teacher and the critics and present their final project with an impressive presentation.

Meet Peter Klick, an instructor at Harrington, with his wife Dianne. Peter is always eager to share ideas about the world with his students. He teaches experimental design. The word on the street is Peter is a designer who thinks outside of the box and encourages his student to do the same. Kudos to educators who set and live by this example.

Students attentively listen when they meet with vendors in the design trade. Harrington introduces students to many companies. This practice is so they become familiar with the sources and that will be important for them in the real world!

Life can be complicated and busy. With Aidan Gray Furniture, the simple feel and look allows your mind to uncomplicated….there is something to be said for simple. With Aidan Gray you can create an environment that reflects your personal style. The Aidan Gray line has a classically aged and distinctive flavor. Their perspective is that nothing is ever too old or dilapidated, chipped or too worn.

Great Dining Chairs with style can be found at Aidan Gray. When you find that great dining table at your local flea market, these chairs are the perfect fit. Much of the Aidan Gray product is solid wood, spun and carved by hand. Each piece then is distressed by hand in a 5 step process. The weathered Paris Finish is a heavily distressed finish which includes chunks of wood removed from the surface, heavy distressing and varying degrees of finishing on each side.

Aidan Gray is featured in some of the most prominent magazines such as Domino, Veranda, Elle Decor, D Home and Southern Accents just to name a few.

Constructed from European Oak each frame is carved and then burnished to a rustic patina and covered with elegant light linen and burlap. Seat cushion is hand tied springs which delivers a firm seat lasting much longer than your basic stuffing. Each loose cushion is foam wrapped down and set into a pocket before covering.

Bleached and beautiful. Whether you love natural full time or for your vacation home, Aidan Gray hits a bulls eye with design and finish. European Oak finishes are more rustic in their finish appearance and are not smooth to the touch. You should expect a raised texture finish.

This small company based in San Francisco has specialized in sculpture reproduction for more than 35 years. They offer original designs as well as classics. All are available in several finishes. They cast their pieces in molds using a variety of gypsum cements.

Attila’s Bayshore Art Studio was originally started by Attila’s father, who emigrated to the US from Hungary. With a love of antiquity and painting he developed many of the finishing techniques they use today. While working together, Attila was able to absorb his father’s brilliance in color and texture at a young age. They worked together for a number of years until he felt his son was ready to take over and graciously stepped aside.

Attila Tivadar now works closely with designer and architects in bringing new designs and colors to the company, in the European tradition left by his father. Attila continues to bring you the antique reproductions which has made the company famous.

Many of us in the furniture world are in our retail and factory corners and aren’t often able to see all the many vendors that are out there. Hans Morsbach is an uncommon source and is multi-faceted in his businesses. He owns Shima Woodcraft, Medici Restaurant… serving the University of Chicago community and is the writer of his book, “Common Sense Forestry”. Hans has many interesting corners!

This is the farm Hans owns, where he and his Amish neighbors use the trees to build their furniture and custom projects. Hans bought this farm from one of his customers who ate at his restaurant, Medici in Hyde Park, the South Side of Chicago…home of President Obama!

Visit Hans up at the farm and see the hands on craftsmanship that goes into the furniture they make!

Honorable mention! Congratulations!
Ashley:
“Hello!!! My name is Ashley Hughes and I am a senior at Harrington College of Design. I was born and raised in Chicago which gave me the benefit to explore and be inspired from some of the world’s greatest architecture and interior spaces. I would love to work with restaurant and hotel design! I am very open minded when it comes to different styles and techniques. I am not only amazed when I see a design that I am interested in but I appreciate it’s use and role in a space. Three important things I look for in furniture when I shop is: 1. The quality of the product 2. Making sure the item is function able 3. The design structure of the piece should make sense and be practical.”

Antiques in white add a sense of light to historic environments. If you have an old space, consider blending some white in, especially for a touch of cottage warmth.

Nothing beats the look of vintage, but it often has its shortfalls. Get the best of both worlds with Designmaster Furniture. A great antique look, but brand spanking new! This domestic furniture manufacturer has an excellent selection of finishes, fabrics and styles to select from. Check out the clever detail of the scalloped skirt on the slipcover of this cottage style slipped chair.

“My name is Rachel Yarkony, I am 24 years old and I am originally from the North suburbs of Chicago. I moved to downtown Chicago after I graduated from the University of Texas (at Austin) in 2006 and enrolled in the Harrington interior design program in January 2007. Everything around me inspires me in design especially nature and the places I have traveled.”

The “Sin Board” was conceived in the summer of 2008 at Harrington College of Design. This is where students anonymously submit their sins and it is written on a huge black board at the school. There is some really good, juicy stuff. One of my favorites is, “I fantasize about Peter Klick” (an instructor at Harrington).
