Paper Turkey for Thanksgiving?
Tuesday, November 24th, 2009Are your cooking skills less then steller? Did you over cook the turkey during last months run through? Then go modern and buy your thanksgiving feast ready made. I think your guest would much rather you spent the time thumbing through the menu of your favorite rotisserie than serving a less than delicious meal. Bite the bullet and fake it! This gives you more time to focus on what is really important, the Decor!
Most place have Thanksgiving meal specials that include sides and the turkey ready for pick up. The grocery chain Meijer even allows orders as late as 24 hours before Thanksgiving, that is awesome. So don’t stress out place the sides in your own bowls and serving ware and if you want you can get the turkey Par-cooked so all you have to do is keep it in the oven on low and bast occasionally to finish it of. Just make sure you have a partner in on the secret to keep guest from finding out the truth! HehHehHeh! They’ll never know!

Personalize your Thanksgiving Table Settings
Sunday, November 22nd, 2009A great way to add a bit of personalization to your holiday table setting is to pay attention to detail. Here are some great ideas for your family gathering form Country Living. Instead of the tradition table place card take this idea of wrapping a handwritten piece of ribbon around the wine goblets saying why you are thankful for each guest.
Don’t have the time to get that fancy then go traditional; its a tradition for a reason. Beautiful handcrafted papers and designer table cards are always in style and if you have good handwriting then all the better. For a more economical solution purchase blank business cards from the nearest office supply store and type up the place card using a fun graphic you find online.
For those who have a little bit more time on your hands or friends who are willing to help can use stamps to personalize each place setting’s napkin. This is a great way to jazz up paper napkins too, even if you only do the initials to make it a bit easier and less time consuming. Check out your nearest craft stores for stamps and ink. Even choosing a maple leaf or pumpkin stamp is a nice way to personalize something that is so utilitarian.
This is my favorite idea. By using fresh pears, pumpkins, gourds, apples and pomegranates not only are you making something personal but it is edible as well. Even if your guest are to full on turkey, after dinner combine the fruit and place them in a nice dish or bowl to make a nice centerpiece for the rest of the evening.

4 Easy Wall Murals
Thursday, November 19th, 2009Need wall art but don’t want to spend an arm and a leg to hire a professional? Then put away the pocket book and get ready to peel and stick! We have scoured the internet and found what we believe are the best of the best when it comes to style, price and ease of installation. Wall murals are a great way to add character to a room without making a long term investment that will eventually need to be painted over. Wall murals are also a great way to interject personal style to teens and kids bedrooms whose tastes change yearly if not monthly.

Furniture Color Trends
Wednesday, November 18th, 2009Metallic hues like gold, silver, bronze and copper are becoming more and more popular in the home as well as in fashion design. This unique piece from Currey and Co. has artistic flare that will draw anyone’s attention. The shape and style are modeled after ancient Chinese furniture.

Wood tones that feature large grainy textures are taking place of the popular java or espresso tones. Stained furniture often means that you are buying anti-”green” home furnishings. Unless the piece has been stained or sealed with a water based treatment the furniture can not be considerd eco-friendly. So beware the green washing and look to more natural tone like the one seen here from Oggetti.
Orange is very popular right now as are reds and other warm tones. Warm toned furniture might be bold or loud but when placed in the right space with other color appropriate furnishings and wall color it can be right on the money. This tall sideboard in orange from Red Egg has so much personality that your other furniture will be jealous. Now I’m sure you are wondering what other colors you’d incorporate with orange and the answer is: blues, browns, white or hot pink. Think FUN FUN FUN!
Go Green! In this case we don’t only mean Eco-Friendly but we mean the color. I know that adding green furniture to a space might be a little on the nose but the color is hot this fall and will make a great impact on your earthy interior. Using colors from nature is a perfect way to bring the outside in and when you mix greens with browns like in this coffee table from CR Currin it makes a great statement.
My Favorite furniture Color trend is BLUE! This desk from A. P. Industries has an oceanic feel and great sensibility. Now I know what you’re thinking, “That piece belongs in a boys room.” well blue furniture isn’t just for boys any more. Adding an occasional piece like this to your space gives you a sense of artistic expression with out going over the top. Simple is better and when working with colored furniture that is key to a great overall design.

Thanksgiving is Around the Corner!
Tuesday, November 17th, 2009Are you excited? Next week is the family holiday we all either love or loath. The family comes together to enjoy grandma’s sweet potatoes, mom’s stuffing and watch as dad slices the turkey; or at least he try’s to slice the turkey before mom steps in and takes over claiming she has a better slicing arm, you know because of dad’s bad elbow. Anyways this is a time of jotful harvest and this should most definitely be seen in your table decor. How are you planning on decorating the table? I think this year I’ll take a que from Southern Accents and go country! Enjoy the inspiration!
Table Top Inspiration from Dining By Design Chicago
Monday, November 16th, 2009Above Left: From the folks at Antiquaire this setting really speaks to the country connoisseur a pounded octagonal charger with a simple white plate, decorative appetizer plate and a tweed napkin with matching napkin ring. Above Right: From sponsor table Gabbiano Winery this golden striped setting has a simple sensibility with a lot of design appeal.
Last week at The Merchandise Mart Chicago, over 50 designers displayed their design talents while inspiring the masses. The annual Dining by Design Event is a fundraiser for DIFFA. (Design Industry Foundation Fighting AIDS) The event has three main events including Cocktails By Design, the Table Hop and Taste and the Dining By Design Gala. During the three events there is a silent auction featuring donations from many of the Mart Showrooms and all proceeds go to support the further research and development of a cure of AIDS. This is a look at some of the most inspiring table settings of the event. To See full tables please follow the link here.
Above Left: From the creative mind of Kathy Taslitz simple equals stunning. Black place settings with green accents and simple glassware create a classic look that really speaks to designs. Did you notice there aren’t any plates? I like it. Above Right: this is a sophisticated look from Richar Interiors INC. the dark gold rimmed plates, simple stemware, silver beer mugs and petite floral arrangements really create an intimate setting. The candle lantern and striped napkin really finish the feel of the look.
Above Left: From The Merchandise Mart Design Center this setting has holiday couture written all over it. The red glass dinner and salad plates are unique and really come together well with the leaf appitizer plate. Green napkins folded into a skinny rectangle with berries wraped around in place of a tradition napkin ring finishes the look. Above Right: From the design masters at RL Home really sings. The Designers current look and feel really speaks to the design on this tablescape. A winner completely.
Above Left: For a more modern look Check out this look from Vesta Hearth and Home Multiple layers of china from the wave dinner plate, orange accent plate, black bowl, and small appitizer plate placed at the bottom of the bowl. Finishes with a set of Chopsticks this is a great modern setting. Above Right: from the Student Designers at Harrington College of Design This is a stylish wave design acheved by placing two plates side by side to create the simple form. The blue ribbon and white napkin help create a line that connects all the elements together.

Inspiration from Nature: Harvest Season
Thursday, November 5th, 2009
Get Inspired by the beauty of nature and bring the out doors in. I remember when I was growing up my favorite things about the fall included the smell of bon fires in the air, the change of colors and the decor my mother made sure to spread throughout our entire home. Pumpkin’s and gourds spread around the house made you feel like everyday was spent surrounded by nature. make sure your house says fall with easy and affordable accents from your local farm or grocer.
