They have been in business for 15 years serving North America, Central America, and South America, as both a manufacture and importer. They design and build old world and contemporary collections that help you create a high fashion environment that is functional with today’s lifestyle. When the cabinet is closed you create beautiful furniture settings that allow for easy conversation away from the distraction of the TV.
Highland Design is a green company! They do not use lumber from the rain forest, clear cutting, or any endangered species. Additionally in all their products they only use new growth and replanted timber. Way to be Green Highland Design. These flat screen television cabinets are an excellent example of how we can incorporate beautiful green design into all aspects of the home. Wednesday, December 30th, 2009Furniture from Currey & Co. for the New Year!
Wednesday, December 30th, 2009Currey & Company creates chandeliers, lamps, wall sconces, accent furniture and garden accessories. Their original designs incorporate an understanding of historic design with an abundance of imagination. A Currey & Company product speaks of the touch of human hands as well as of the design skills and craftsmanship that have created it. Currey and Company is carried by well known Furniture Boutique Retailers, visit one of our friends new online store that will have a nice selection of Currey, www.MigandTig.com
A Little Bit of History: In the 1980’s Robert Currey sold his chain of contemporary furniture stores and began working on concepts and products for the garden as well as for the home. Inspired by his own garden-oriented retail stores and their need for interesting merchandise, he incorporated his already prospering product development and marketing business in 1988.
This company, Garden Source, which focused on historic garden furnishings, became today’s Currey & Company. The product line changed and evolved over the years including classic wrought iron and cast aluminum furniture, whimsical Americana, a plethora of birdhouses, rustic willow and hickory furniture, amusing gardening accessories, and, increasingly, lighting products.
Lamps and chandeliers were first created from wrought iron; gradually the line was expanded to include other materials, but the products always incorporated an understanding of historic design and a lot of imagination. By the mid-1990’s lighting had become a most important part of the business although garden accessories and occasional furniture remain in the collection. As you can see Currey and Co. offer smart looking classically designed pieces that reflect a strong sense of style and luxury.

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009Just in case your Italian is a little rusty, Ciao bella tavioli laterali means Hello Beautiful Side Tables! Beautiful they are. These great accent pieces are from the Ambella Home Collection which was founded by George Moussa in 1995 and recently celebrated their 10 year anniversary. The son of an importer, George had his father as a business/importing mentor from an early age and over the years has created his own passion for the business.
Each piece in the Ambella Home and Best Design Collections is uniquely designed for the line and manufactured overseas. The production is meticulously managed so that a beautiful piece is the final result every time – from the production sample shown at market to a reorder one year later. Overseeing the selection of the best raw materials, using skilled carvers and craftsmen, artistic finishers and packing the piece so it arrives without damage are just a few ways Ambella know they can stand behind the quality of their furniture.

10 Top Chandeliers
Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009Chrome with Crystal Accents and Cream or Chocolate Silk Hard Back Shades. Adjustable Pole with 3 Connectible Lengths of Rods: 6″, 12″, and 18″. The Margo Chandelier from AF Lighting and designed by Candice Olsen has an extremely grand presence in all rooms.
The Palm Springs chandelier is designed for the modern McMansion by Varaluz Lighting. Complete with three tiers and 16 lamps this 62″ tall lighting fixture is going to turn heads toward the ceiling right when people walk in the front door. A huge piece perfect for you and your modern home.
One of my all time favorites, this stunning chandelier from Arteriors features 8 lights and hundreds of beautifully strung metal beads which drape elegantly down from the top of the fixture to three tiers and losely hanging at the base. Dimensions: H: 46” • 22” Dia
Bohemian Chic – These wine barrel planet chandelier’s come in either a 6 candle or 8 candle design. Made from reclaimed French Oak wine barrel stave’s and copper metal hoops with a waxed rust finish. From the great people at Bobo Intriguing Objects. Dimensions: 6 Candle: 27″ height, 34” diameter. 8 Candle: 34” height, 44″ diameter.
A great art piece as well as a functional chandelier this hand blown glass sculpture from Christopher Guy has high end style and design written all over it. Made up of over one hundred different delicately blown glass spheres and shapes installing this piece can be a dangerous process so make sure to hire the pros to help you with this beautiful chandelier.
This unique chandelier from Crystorama has been made for the lover of the shabby chic life style. It’s antique white leaf and Sage Green accented motif make this chandelier part of the Paris Flea Market Collection. It is adorned with Rose Tulips that add a feminine touch.
Dimensions: W39″ H29″ Bulbs: 12-60W Candle
If you are looking to get inspired by nature then have we found the Chandelier for you. Take a walk in the woods or welcome home the wood nymphs with this outstanding chandelier from Deanna Wish Designs. Made of Briarwood twigs this piece has an impressive diameter of either 60″, 42″ or 48″ comes with 14 lights and a height of 42″ or 48″
Delicate and dainty, this two light chandelier from Imax Corp gives us the sense of a 1940’s throwback with it’s classic black and crystal design. Dripping in fine crystal beads this piece is perfect for any small guest bath room or girls princess suite!
A new favorite of mine, the Honors chandelier from Varaluz is made up of a 13-light fixture with raw silk shades and matching tassels. The style and design suggents a romantic morrocan setting or a spainish hotel lobby. The names obviously comes from the use of the small tassels and I think that this piece graduates at the top of it’s class, with honors of course!
For the ultra modernist’s among us, I introduce the Reggio Pendant by Nuevo Furniture. Contemporary pendant lamp with polypropylene shades and chrome canopy you can choose from white clear or chrome. The seven lamps will surely be enough to light the dining table or game table. This piece is young and fresh and a great addition to any first home.
Watch the video below for info on how to install you new Chandelier!
The folks at The Martha Blog show us the steps it takes to hang big crystal chandeliers.
Do you know the Jasper Cabinet Company?
Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009In the 1960’s, Jasper developed a gun cabinet without the aid of a designer. It later became the most copied piece of furniture Jasper ever made. The gun cabinet was later developed into a display cabinet and the curio cabinet was born. Also, during the 60’s the flat top desk was developed into a roll-top desk with a smooth roll curtain that would not be a dust collector.
A New York investment company, G.L. Ohrstrom & Company, purchased Jasper Cabinet Company in 1972. Jasper Cabinet was part of a group of furniture companies known as Dorset Corporation. They held the business until 1986 when it was acquired by Avenir Group, Inc. Avenir Group, Inc., due to a crippling strike in 1999 from which it never fully recovered, closed its doors in October of 2002. In July of 2005, Jasper Cabinet was restarted with our present line as shown under Products.
Jasper Cabinet Company developed into one of the fine furniture factories in the country. Jasper Cabinet was recognized as the leader in its field and the innovator of many of the fine features of American made furniture.
Jasper Cabinet was the world’s leading producer of top quality secretaries, curio cabinets, desks, entertainment furniture, gun cabinets, chests, and other accent furniture. Jasper Cabinet is a custom manufacturer, offering a wide variety of finishes, hand-decorating, wood species, decorative veneers and other options. For many companies accent is a sideline and not very important. For Jasper Cabinet Company, accent is everything.

Our friends over at Apartment Therapy have collected great examples of what else you can do incase the thought of a 7′ tree in your living room is overwhelming or if like me you just don’t want to deal with the clean up. Who said that your tree has to be a real tree anyways. I usually put together my fake white tree and light a pine scented candle, it does the trick!

The Theme Christmas Tree
Thursday, December 17th, 2009Theme trees are gaining popularity every year. Many people find that theme trees allow further personalization of holiday decorating since they can be decorated with special collections or items of interest. Often, a family adds a second tree and makes it a theme tree because they don’t want to part with their traditional tree and ornaments. A theme can be anything. Just think of something you like—a color, a decorating style, a shape—and start your theme from there. There are so many ornaments available that you’ll find plenty of things to hang on your tree.
Here are some idea for theme trees. Use one of these, or let your imagination run wild:
Angels and Cherubs – all colors, crocheted lace and other textures.

Bears – tiny teddy bears all over.

Color Theme – red, gold, blue, winter white, pink or any combination.

Country – handmade ornaments and craft pieces.

Fisherman – tiny tackle boxes, nets and lures with fish ornaments.
Gardener – tiny flowers and vegetables and small garden implements.
Kitchen Tree – tiny utensils, teapots and pans, with a dishcloth as a tree skirt.

Fruits – Fresh apples and pears with cinnamon sticks and colored lights
Sports – you’ll find a wide assortment of ornaments with colors and insignia of pro and college teams

Victorian – hearts in pink, cream and gold and lots of lace.
Stylish Silk Florals for your Home
Wednesday, December 16th, 2009House Plants from Natural Decoration INC.
Don’t you just love the lively and refreshing scent of fresh flowers? Don’t you hate that they die after only a week? I do, and luckily now there are great silk floral out there that give you all the stylish flare and personalized touch of real flowers but without the clean up. They might not give off the same scent as real flowers but I’m sure we can find you a nice scented candle to do the trick.
Modern White Orchid from Distinctive Designs
House plants are the same way. You never know when to water them or how much light the need to survive. You’re supposed to place them outside for a bit of time on nice days so they can soak up the fresh air or in their case the CO2. But how many of us are guilty of plant neglect? I know that I have irresponsibly cut down a plant or two in my day and now I can happily Windex my plants about every three months to keep them nice and shiny.
Long Stem Red Roses in Silver Vase from Forever Green Art
I know that there are alot of bad words said about faux flowers: tacky, cheap and low-end are just some that I have heard over the years. Now though, the Faux floral manufactuers have stepped up there game and have really created one of a kind pieces that look almost real. Arrangements can go for upwards of $60 to $100. So cheap no more these flowers are sophisticated and perfect for all homes.
Purple Hydraingea arrangement from Distinctive Designs
Young Bachelors, listen up! Faux florals aren’t just for your mother or girlfriend anymore either. Get creative and bring some class to your pad. not only will your girl appreciate the warmth they bring to your Ikea sofa and hand me down end tables but they will make you look like you care about the enviroment around you. Now just cause I said florals this doesn’t mean you need to buy flowers, you can go for something a bit more masculine like the cool bonsai tree seen below.
The styles and options are endless when it comes to silk flowers and we mean that in more ways then one!

Eye on Furniture: Dining Table
Monday, December 14th, 2009Bring the best of both worlds into your home with this unique table from Asian Art Imports. The glass top screams modern decor and the base has eco-chic written all over it. Paired with great seating, possibly a bench, and your dinner parties will get alot more exciting. Made from teakwood the base is 23″ square and stands 29″ tall.
Apple Table in Acacia gets it’s name from the general shape of the piece. This is a great three legged table that has a great naturalistic look that can be incorporated into many different settings.
Free Edge Table is the deffinition of nature taking it’s course when talking about furniture. The tables imperfections are what makes it beautiful and the free form edge makes a nice contrast to any traditional or modern chair.
Eating and Seating Challenge Final Works
Friday, December 11th, 2009As the competition comes to a close we want to thank all who participated in the process and wish luck to all! We are looking forward to the winners which will be announced next week here on YFL.

QUATTRO
THE CONCEPT BEHIND QUATTRO SOFA WAS TO DESIGN A FLEXIBLE PIECE OF SEATING THAT COULD BE ARRANGED AND REARRANGED DEPENDING ON THE APPLICATION AND THE SPACE IT’S BEING USED FOR TO GIVE THE OWNER COPLETE CONTROL AND UNLIMITED OPTIONS FOR THE CONFIGURATION, SHAPE AND LENGTH.
THE SOFA WITH FOUR SECTIONS AND ENDLESS SELECTION OF MATERIALS AND FINISHES THAT CAN BE STACKED AND PLACED TOGETHER ALTERNATIVELY. NO MATTER HOW THE PARTS ARE COMBINED THIS TIMELESS FURNITURE ENHANCES EVERY LIVING ROOM, HOTEL LOBBY, ARIPORT LOUNGE AND OFFICE SPACE.
QATTRO MEANS FOUR IN ITALIAN. THE DESIGN CONTAINING FOUR DIFFERENT PIECES WITH DIFFERENT SHAPES GIVES THE USER THE ABBILITY TO PUT THE PIECES TOGETHER AS THEY WISH AND THEY CAN COME UP WITH THEIR OWN DESIGN AND CONFIGURATION DEPENDING ON THEIR MOOD, THEIR SPACE AND THEY WAY THEY LIKE TO USE THE SOFA.

THE COMPONENTS ARE LIKE PIECES OF A PUZZEL OR LEGO AND THE USER CAN HAVE FUN
PUTTING THEM TOGETHER AND CHANGING THE CONFIGURATIONS. PIECES CAN BE PUT TOGETHER IN A LINE AND REPRESENT A SIMLPE SOFA OR CAN BE ROTATED AND REPRESENT A L-SHAPED PIECE OF SEATING, CAN BE SEPARATED AND PLACED IN DISTANCE FROM EACH OTHER. THIS DESIGN CAN BE USED IN ANY SHAPE AND ANY CONFIGURATION THAT THE USER LIKES EXPERIENCE.

THE TABLE DESIGNED FOR THIS PIECE OF SEATING IS VERY SIMPLE AND HAS TWO SECTIONS THAT CAN BE SEPARATED, OR PUT TOGETHER. LIKE THE SOFA, MORE THAN TOW TABLE PIECES CAN BE PUT TOGETEHR TO HAVE VERIATY IN SIZE AND LENGTH. IT CAN ALSO BE A PART OF THE SEATING PIECE AND FUNCTION AS A TABLE.
FINISHES USED FOR THIS DESIGN ARE, UNFINISHED DARK CHERRY WOOD FOR THE TOP AND THE BASE, AND SILK AGED BRONZE COLOR WITH ALLEPEY PATTERN FABRIC FOR THE SEATS. FINISHES AND FABRICS CAN BE VARIABLE , CUSTOMIZED AND CHANGE DEPENDING ON THE CLIENT’S REQUEST.

The “C” Table from White Design
Thursday, December 10th, 2009
Curving around like the crest of a plywood wave, the “C” table—designed by Albuquerque-based Scott White, with a little help from Mara Schweikert of Soma Interiors—hollows out beneath a flat top to make space for a stack of magazines. Scrap from each piece is then used to create additional accessories, resulting in a highly efficient, low-waste system. This is such a great design for modern living. We especially enjoy the magazine rack base. We are looking forward to what other possible finishes the team at white design come up with for this great piece.

Designer Bathrooms from Hooker Furniture
Wednesday, December 9th, 2009Are you getting tired of your bathroom and dread the idea of a costly and time consuming renovation? Well how about you take the process one step at a time and start by adding a new level of luxury with these beautiful sink cabinets from Hooker Furniture. The styles are great and match any need, from modern to traditional there is a cabinet that is right for you.

This is a great smaller sized vanity perfect for the french country enthusiast. The patina finish and slightly warn edges offer a fun stylized quality that really only happens after years of age. This is a way to get that aged look with out having to rough up the wood your self or wait for the finish to happen. The open bottom storage looks great and houses the basket full of bathroom accessories beautifully.

Probably my gold award winner of the Hooker Furniture set, this sink cabinet has rich high end style with a sense of old world quality. Modeled after an 18th Century apothecary chest the multiple drawer pulls are actually doors. This piece has a bit more of a masculine vibe but the quality and combination of wood and stone work well in any stylish persons bath room.

Doesn’t it look like a piece you’d find in an old timey barbershop? This is a twin basin top piece that has multiple storage compartments to tuck away all of your perfumes, balms, lotions and suds. The piece comes with faucets or you can request to have different ones installed after the piece arrives. Make sure you call Joe the plumber for some help on that one!

Why buy Hooker?
During their 85 years of operation, they’ve sought to display integrity in their relationships with employees, customers, sales representatives, suppliers and the local communities in which they work. When purchasing Hooker Furniture products, you can have peace of mind that you’re choosing furnishings of enduring quality. They’re committed to assuring superior quality through selection of materials and lumber, product design and engineering. At Hooker Furniture, the mission is to enrich the lives of the people they touch through innovative home furnishings of exceptional value.

Groovy Stuff Enters the Green Elite
Sunday, December 6th, 2009GROOVYSTUFF COMPLETES FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL CERTIFICATION FROM THE RAINFOREST ALLIANCE
Select Products Will Carry the FSC-Recycled Label
DALLAS, TX – With 10 successful years in home furnishings under its belt, sustainable style expert and home furnishings manufacturer Groovystuff has been awarded with the elite Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody certification from the Rainforest Alliance.

To achieve its certification, Groovystuff spent the past year and a half developing adequate tracking and handling procedures for the Thai manufacturing facility from which it purchases reclaimed teakwood products – mostly teak and rosewood wagon wheels and oxen yokes – which are then manufactured into the company’s unique line of upper-medium and high-end home furnishings for both indoors and outdoors. In addition, Groovystuff had to ensure that workers in the Thai facility had sufficient training on FSC chain of custody requirements for handling post-consumer reclaimed materials. Groovystuff developed procedures, work instructions and a training manual to cover the handling of post-consumer materials from the time of procurement through production and final sale.

Sheryl Saxton, Groovystuff’s Sustainability Officer, has overall responsibility for managing the chain of custody program, as well as overseeing Groovystuff’s overall corporate environmental commitment.

Light the Menorah, Spin the Dradle

It’s that time of year again for Chanukah festivities! I am traditionally a Christmas Celebrator but I have several friends who take part in their family’s tradition of 7 days of gift giving. I wasn’t really clear on what Chanukah really involved so I decided to do a bit of research. Turns out that decorating for the holidays is getting more and more popular. I know my friends who are Jewish tend to stick to the non-descript Frosty the snow man figurines because he promote Winter not Christmas. Also, large yellow Stars of David tend to be tradition but how about some fun new decoration ideas? I’ve compiled a group of shots that I think are a fun way to celebrate the holiday!
A great table setting from Southern Accents via Cote de Texas. I personally love cobalt blue so this is a dining space I would love to take part in.
This arrangement from Marco Island Florists is a beautiful example of a centerpiece or even a hostess gift.

This is also a great Idea from Pottery Barn. Give your guests a new set of candles to replace this years. Buy the candles in bulk from Ikea or your local craft store and simple tie a ribbon around them. Have them on a table at the front door ready to give to guests as they leave.

Last but not least take a cue from the White House and mix your Holiday Decor. This is great for all the mixed religion families out there!
Custom Sofa Upholstery
Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009The first thing to consider is what style suits your taste and lifestyle? Do you prefer sleek modern lines or cozy traditional styling. Do you want a slip covered style where you can remove the covers to wash or dry clean, or, do you prefer the crisp tailored appearance of a fully upholstered style? Do you prefer traditional turned wood legs in an espresso color, or a tailored kick pleated skirt with a more formal appearance?
Next is the configuration and size. Measure your room and determine what size and configuration is best suited to your room. Perhaps a sofa and an armchair, or, maybe an L-shaped sectional with attached chaise for the media room is best suited for your family. Whatever your needs, chances are we can help you create the perfect sofa for your room. For fabrics, look at the choices of patterns and colors on our site, if you want any particular swatches mailed to your home click on the swatch request button to request. Measure the space you have to work with ( width, height and depth), take notes or details about your arrangement, and give us a call to begin the process of creating your one of a kind, customized sofa.
The selection and prices at Custom Sofa Design are truly unbeatable. If you’re someone who has a specific design in mind and want something customized to fit your needs–this would be the place to go. The services offered truly reflect the name, you are able to request a couch that had a higher back and deeper seat than what was shown on the web site so make sure you know what you want when ordering. The fabric options and styles are great and fit any setting.
Custom Sofa Design is a great option for every type of customer.
