boring or brazen: make a stand with accents

As we’ve talked about before I always advice going out on that design limb when purchasing end tables and night stands (at the very least). Why? They are small in scale; therefore, easy to visually digest. They are also not as large an investment as a sofa, media center or chairs which means the anguish factor doesn’t need to be overwhelming.
When beginning a project clients will show me photos of gorgeous, bold, innovative room settings they’ve carefully ripped from their favorite design magazine, and say ”this is the look that we would love to have”.
However, when actually presented with pieces to produce said “loved” effect, eyes widen, breathing quickens and the family labrador is held tightly. ”Um, maybe not quite so …” their voices trail off.
I raise my eyebrow (internally of course), but actually this is a good thing because now I know what they really want. A beautiful, understated environment with touches of whimsy, art and drama to add flavor. These end tables are perfect little jewels that say sass up a room, and excite the eye. Like a treasure you have to take time to notice.
I encourage experimenting with end tables and night stands. Sometimes they’re just enough for that added flair, sometimes they dont work at all (small loss), and sometimes they propel our imagination and confidence to experiment even more to make our environment “mine”.
