Stylish Silk Florals for your Home

Wednesday, December 16th, 2009

Oriental Ficus Ladder Fishtail Palm

House Plants from Natural Decoration INC.

Don’t you just love the lively and refreshing scent of fresh flowers? Don’t you hate that they die after only a week? I do, and luckily now there are great silk floral out there that give you all the stylish flare and personalized touch of real flowers but without the clean up. They might not give off the same scent as real flowers but I’m sure we can find you a nice scented candle to do the trick.

Orchids with bamboo in bowlModern White Orchid from Distinctive Designs

House plants are the same way. You never know when to water them or how much light the need to survive. You’re supposed to place them outside for a bit of time on nice days so they can soak up the fresh air or in their case the CO2. But how many of us are guilty of plant neglect? I know that I have irresponsibly cut down a plant or two in my day and now I can happily Windex my plants about every three months to keep them nice and shiny.

A tall mix of Red Roses and Hydrangea in a 4.5

Long Stem Red Roses in Silver Vase from Forever Green Art

I know that there are alot of bad words said about faux flowers: tacky, cheap and low-end are just some that I have heard over the years. Now though, the Faux floral manufactuers have stepped up there game and have really created one of a kind pieces that look almost real. Arrangements can go for upwards of $60 to $100. So cheap no more these flowers are sophisticated and perfect for all homes.

Young Bachelors, listen up! Faux florals aren’t just for your mother or girlfriend anymore either. Get creative and bring some class to your pad. not only will your girl appreciate the warmth they bring to your Ikea sofa and hand me down end tables but they will make you look like you care about the enviroment around you. Now just cause I said florals this doesn’t mean you need to buy flowers, you can go for something a bit more masculine like the cool bonsai tree seen below.

The styles and options are endless when it comes to silk flowers and we mean that in more ways then one!

While watching Top Chef on Bravo, one of my favorite shows I couldn’t help but notice one of my most desired products we feature on Your Furniture Link, the lace porcelain vases from Fire Fly. I think it’s great that the designers who worked on the Top Chef house had enough sense to include such a cool product and from a brand that needs a little recognition.

Jaipur Rugs Inc. - Hand knotted Rugs And Carpets Wool RugsHand Hooked Rug

“Beauty of whatever kind, in its supreme development, invariably excites the sensitive soul to tears.”
– Edgar Allan Poe

Memorable, beautiful, comfortable and distinctive . . . at Jaipur Rugs they believe a rug should provide all this and more. Their rugs are created by using ancient techniques of master tribal weavers from the mountains of Northern India. Through this rich tradition, they produce strikingly beautiful hand-knotted, hand-tufted and flat woven designs. Jaipur rugs range from contemporary and transitional to lush traditional with rich colors and stunning appearance. Best of all, Jaipur Rugs brings this excellence, beauty, and distinction, affordably, into contemporary American homes.

Jaipur Rugs Company - Hand knoted Rugs , Hand Tufted Rugs,

Named after the famed royal city of Jaipur, the company was founded by N.K. Chaudhary, a visionary with nearly 30 years experience in rug manufacturing. His goal has always been to see India become the leader in the production of rugs worldwide, and from modest beginnings, Chaudhary grew his business from a small team of talented artisans to a force of 40,000 skilled masters and an in-house design team of over 30 designers. It is . Chaudhary’s vision allows Jaipur to have total control of the production of rugs and sets the company apart from many of its competitors. Today, more than 25 years after he set up his first looms for weavers, Chaudhary is still seeing his goal realized as he continues to push the envelope. In 1998, Chaudhary expanded his company to the United States and is based in Atlanta, Georgia.

From the Bottom of the Sea to your Home

Friday, July 24th, 2009

Acrylicore Inc.                  Accessories by Sherwood

One of my favorite trends right now is the incorporation of sea inspired accessories into eclectic and thoughtful interiors. Maybe it’s because I’m a cancer or because I grew up appreciating all the sea had to offer but now I’m not the only one who thinks fish are cool. From Acrylicore you see a sculptural piece that has been inspired by jelly fish. This paired with a wall mounted lighting unit would make a splash in any interior. The set of fish sculptures are a fun and interesting addition to any bookshelf or console table from Accessories by Sherwood.

Bobo Intriguing Objects Artifacts International

Bringing the ocean into your home can be done in multiple ways some ways don’t have to be so literal. You can use a piece like the candelabra from Bobo Intriguing Objects which has been made from reclaimed drift would and boasts an almost tentacle styled shape. Another great way to bring the sea side into your home is to add great lighting like the shell sconces seen above from Artifacts International.

Currey and Company Jaipur Rugs Inc.

When addressing mantels, alcoves or niches, placing a great relic like the Shell and stand from Currey and Company along with a grouping of florals and tall oversized candles would make a statement and show your appreciation towards the ocean. My current favorite sea inspired shape would have to be the branches of Coral seen in the rug from Jaipur above. Coral has been infused into several home accent lines including sconces, chandeliers, rugs and decorative accents. This is a natural statement worth making.

New Orleans Furniture

New Orleans has gone through a lot of stress over the last couple of years but it remains a must visit U.S. city and these photos show why. The architecture and design in this 291 year old city brings it’s residents from the modern century to a time of European indulgence. Today the big easy maybe best be know for it’s hurricanes and  Mardi Gras but there is a sense of old worldliness that has me inspired to bring a french flare into my own Interior.

New Orleans Furniture

While staying in the French Quarter you have got to take a walk down every street, turn every corner and discover something new. Make sure to walk the French Market after you sip on a café au lait and nibble on fresh beignets from Cafe’ Du Monde. Walk the St. Louis Cathedral square at night and have your cards or palm read just for fun! But do make sure to stop in to the Cathedral and take in the great Architecture which New Orleans was built around.

New Orleans Furniture

The best part of New Orleans are the courtyards and gardens. These outdoor spaces, as well as the Lobby’s and den’s of the Boutique French Quarter Hotels are where I find my Interior inspiration. Bringing the gardens into your space via small accessories like the finial shown below and other decorative accents is a great start. The nice thing about New Orleans is the amount of original art that can be bought on the street from the artist and you can usually talk them into a good price.

New Orleans Furniture New Orleans Furniture

New Orleans Furniture

Clockwise from top left: Accessories by Sherwood IncArteriors - Aidan Gray

To really make an impact you must include a chandelier, like the one show above, in your interior. This will bring your company and you into the lounges and parlor rooms of so many great New Orleans destinations. Also by adding a frech country inspired chair or chaise you are adding style and sophistication to your space. My favorite thing to do is play off the furniture style by placing the piece in a modern space or next to a modern side table. This will bring more focus to the piece as art not just a comfy place to sit.

So when you are planning your next trip out of town remember to consider an inspiring location like New Orleans and don’t forget to take pictures of all the historical interiors and the furnishings so you can incorporate something like them in your home. And don’t forget to start your Online Search here!

The floor lamp shown above is a very popular product and is a great option for creating room seperation. These two vases make great accessories in hallways or on a mantel. When grouping objects together remember that hieght changes from one object to the next is pleasing to the eye and a minimum of three object looks best. For instance, if you’re decorating a side table in your living room start with a tall object like a lamp or vase of fresh cut flowers, then add a medium height item. I usually like to incorprate a family photo in a 5″x7″ frame depending on the height of the vase. A sculpture or decorative object also works quite nicely. Finally add a small object like a candle on a dish, a candy bowl, a figurine or other small item and you’ll have a completed look that shows thought and design sensibility.

Turn Your Living Space into a Magazine Cover!

boleraroom

When it comes to design more times than most, simpler is better. This approach has definitely been taken to heart by Bolier & Company whose simply elegant furnishings will bring style, comfort and distinction to any home. Their passion for beauty and their desire to create pieces which offer clean lines and elegant shapes comes through in all aspects of their work. Above you see an interior space that has been designed using the company’s Atelier Collection. This collection offers modern sensibility while promoting comfort and use of quality materials.

Bolier offers a select porfolio of classic forms inspired by traditional fine furniture and shaped for modern lifestyles. Each piece reflects a dedication to design.  The vision of Bolier comes from it’s founder, Christian Plasman, who draws on his three decades of experience working with respected industry leaders. With his knowledge of furniture, gained while working for Herman Miller, Baker Furniture and HBF, Plaman has created a great company offering exquisite pieces.

Some of my favorite Interiors are those which have a successful collection of furnishings from different era’s. Working with Bolier allows the consumer the opportunity to achieve this popular look. Because Bolier has designed their pieces to reflect some of the more memorable design periods in history. Bolier pieces range from casual elegance to refined luxury. Contemporary pieces of steel and glass paired with a traditional setee in dark wood and cream upholstry will transform your living room into a space worthy the cover of Elle DECOR.

Depending on your design sense and your prefered style I’m almost positive there is a piece of Furniture from Bolier with your name on it. Most notable style influences on Bolier & Co. are the mission period, neoclassicism, mid-century modernism and a mix from  traditional Asian furnishings. So next time you’re fliping through your favorite design Magazine and get the inspiration for a mackover remember Bolier for amazing designs and beautiful craftsmenship.

There is nothing like moving into a new home and having your windows covered right away. I understand that first hand and recommend that when you move make sure your windows are dressed and ready to go. There’s nothing more embarrisng than running to the bathroom in the midlle of the night and finding out your neighber, the night owl, can see right in your hallway window. So remember these three simple steps to covering your window. Step 1, make sure you have a nice blind or shade for optimum privacy. Step 2, choose a rod or double rod that fits your personal style and blends with the rest of your decor. (Tip for choosing the right finial: if you wouldn’t wear it, then don’t make your windows.) Step 3, depending on your rod system choose beautiful panels of fabric that embelish the room and give your space a sense of luxury, color, contrast, softness or which ever desired effect your looking for.
