Chinese Brass door closures and drawer pulls from Mother of Pearl and Sons Trading. Do you know what COM means when it comes to custom furniture? It means Customers Own Material. So when you are looking for a unique cabinet, side board, console or buffet and you go to a furniture designer to discuss building a custom piece, you can bring your own hardware. That is if the designer works with COM. Most do but others who are trying to make a profit off things like decorative hardware and overall material as well as the labor might not allow it. These Chinese details are a great option compared to the usual.
Currey & Company creates chandeliers, lamps, wall sconces, accent furniture and garden accessories. Their original designs incorporate an understanding of historic design with an abundance of imagination. A Currey & Company product speaks of the touch of human hands as well as of the design skills and craftsmanship that have created it. Currey and Company is carried by well known Furniture Boutique Retailers, visit one of our friends new online store that will have a nice selection of Currey, www.MigandTig.com
A Little Bit of History: In the 1980’s Robert Currey sold his chain of contemporary furniture stores and began working on concepts and products for the garden as well as for the home. Inspired by his own garden-oriented retail stores and their need for interesting merchandise, he incorporated his already prospering product development and marketing business in 1988.
This company, Garden Source, which focused on historic garden furnishings, became today’s Currey & Company. The product line changed and evolved over the years including classic wrought iron and cast aluminum furniture, whimsical Americana, a plethora of birdhouses, rustic willow and hickory furniture, amusing gardening accessories, and, increasingly, lighting products.
Lamps and chandeliers were first created from wrought iron; gradually the line was expanded to include other materials, but the products always incorporated an understanding of historic design and a lot of imagination. By the mid-1990’s lighting had become a most important part of the business although garden accessories and occasional furniture remain in the collection. As you can see Currey and Co. offer smart looking classically designed pieces that reflect a strong sense of style and luxury.

Curving around like the crest of a plywood wave, the “C” table—designed by Albuquerque-based Scott White, with a little help from Mara Schweikert of Soma Interiors—hollows out beneath a flat top to make space for a stack of magazines. Scrap from each piece is then used to create additional accessories, resulting in a highly efficient, low-waste system. This is such a great design for modern living. We especially enjoy the magazine rack base. We are looking forward to what other possible finishes the team at white design come up with for this great piece.
GROOVYSTUFF COMPLETES FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL CERTIFICATION FROM THE RAINFOREST ALLIANCE
Select Products Will Carry the FSC-Recycled Label
DALLAS, TX – With 10 successful years in home furnishings under its belt, sustainable style expert and home furnishings manufacturer Groovystuff has been awarded with the elite Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) chain of custody certification from the Rainforest Alliance.
To achieve its certification, Groovystuff spent the past year and a half developing adequate tracking and handling procedures for the Thai manufacturing facility from which it purchases reclaimed teakwood products – mostly teak and rosewood wagon wheels and oxen yokes – which are then manufactured into the company’s unique line of upper-medium and high-end home furnishings for both indoors and outdoors. In addition, Groovystuff had to ensure that workers in the Thai facility had sufficient training on FSC chain of custody requirements for handling post-consumer reclaimed materials. Groovystuff developed procedures, work instructions and a training manual to cover the handling of post-consumer materials from the time of procurement through production and final sale.
Sheryl Saxton, Groovystuff’s Sustainability Officer, has overall responsibility for managing the chain of custody program, as well as overseeing Groovystuff’s overall corporate environmental commitment.
Jesse is a furniture company with over eighty years of experience and history in manufacturing and design. It’s techniques are aimed to define a collection of furnishing system’s and accessories that strongly reflect a sense of contemporary living. The Jesse home is a unique dimension in which functional needs combine with feelings to create a space with a definition of individuality and luxury. The furnishings Jesse produce all contain similar lines and design definitions. Low profiles and straight edges can be seen in almost all of the Jesse collections. The stylistic approach which Jesse has taken is one that suggests a total life style line. The differentiation between the daytime and nighttime living areas are very consistent.
The Terrence Sofa above, can be ordered in a variety of different sizes and finishes. Constructed from a wooden frame with different density polyurethane foam padding not only is this the best seat in the house but it also holds your drink for you. The seat cushions are made from non-deformable polyurethane which means they take ware and tare well. The back cushions are a reversible feather mix and the piece can be upholstered in leather or removable fabric. The handy dandy ledge on the back of the piece can be made from either dark oak or walnut and is a perfect option for those of us living in small spaces. Why place the soda on an end table when you can put down on the back of the couch.
Designed by Sergio Brioschi this wooden sideboard, which is available in two versions, offers a unique storage piece for any modern dining space. Shown on the left is the high boy version with 4 hanging doors and 2 inside drawers. On the right the low version with 4 hanging doors and 1 inside drawer, offers the feeling of a classic buffet. This piece come complete with wooden baseboard and handles. Finish options include dark oak, walnut, mat or my personal favorite, high gloss lacquer.

Looking for High End Style with unique finishes and creative direction? Then check out today’s blog on CR Currin, a furniture designer and manufacture with style and quality.
CR Currin is the brainchild of owners Rebecca and Crawford Currin. The Currins who own JALCO Manufacturing, the parent company of CR Currin, started in the industry by finishing high end furniture for other well known companies over 20 years ago. During that time they became known for their quality bench made construction, sophisticated hand rubbed finishes, unique metallic leaf treatments, and use of various glass treatments. They worked closely with many designers in developing product for customers and most of their clients, sold primarily to the trade. Many long hours of research, development and trial/error evolved into the look that is now CR Currin.
They gained alot from their behind the scenes work. They gained an innate intuition and ability to interpret a designer’s vision and bring it to reality, along with the ability to respond to deadlines and react quickly to their customers’ needs. In 2006, the Currins made the decision to introduce their own products to the trade. The CR Currin product line was debuted in early 2007. Their intent is to utilize the many years of experience to take clean classic designs to the next level.
CR Currin has no production lines in their facility. They operate in a factory environment with a studio mentality. Each piece of furniture is bench made and created to be fine “Jewelry for the Home”. Bench made means that each piece is assembled from beginning to end at the bench of a skilled craftsman. With nearly endless combinations of finishes and techniques, finely crafted furniture pieces become works of art. CR Currin products are produced exclusively in the USA. They use sustainable raw materials, and employ rigorous recycling efforts to reduce their impact on Planet Earth.
Archatrive was founded in the late 1980’s by Lewis Krevolin. It continues to operate as a family business with Deb and Rudy Krevolin at the helm, assisted by their daughter Jessica. Lewis continues to lend design direction to the company. It is located in the Hudson Valley of New York, an area rich with architectural detail and inspiration.
Through their unique real-estate development business, the Krevolins would locate historic houses in up-state New York facing demolition. Rather than let these houses be destroyed, they would de-build them board by board, carefully labeling and documenting each piece. One of the best sustainable design initiatives, this allowed them to integrate the historic structures into new construction and would re-birth the original in the form of large upscale estates.
Now today they continue this idea of re-birth with their great home furnishings. Archatrive’s Deconstructionist Furniture and Decoration has an appealing look. This unique and evolving line is available through showrooms and fine specialty shops throughout the country. Custom work is always welcome and given personal attention
These beds are the company’s best example of the unique marriage of architecture and furniture. The styles found in the bedrooms are found in great architecture from the Gothic Age to the Renaissance. The only requirement you need to worry about when purchasing one of Archatrives beds is the space you have available. The sucess of these pieces is that they are great for the homes with large bedrooms like the historic homes they are dirved from.
My favorite piece from the collection is the Library Bed seen above. This piece will surround even the most avid reader with a large selection of books. Anchored by Four Large Columns that are actually Lamps, both side rails and the footboard serve as built in bookshelves which is the greatest marriage of form and function. Dimensions for this piece are 70″W x 81″H for the queen sized bed with headboard and foot board.

From Urban Woods is the leading designer of sustainable furniture from reclaimed wood, eco-friendly materials and environmentally conscious manufacturing processes. The distinct beauty of reclaimed wood, finished with rich water based, non-toxic stains, is preserved in handmade furniture and made in Los Angeles, California.
The Martini stool from Armen Art Furniture is a stylish piece for any home. The espresso finished wood and the red leather are a great combination. The most interesting thing about the stool is it’s back as well as its location to the seat. A fine example of modern luxury. I can see this piece in a lot of really fun locations including bars and kitchens.
Satisfying to the senses, deliciously attractive, eco friendly and abundantly life-loving only starts to describe this new vendor we are welcoming into our community. Meet the Family: “Addie” (a traditional girl with modern sensibilities. Very able to stand on her own four feet), “Olivia” (playful, curvaceous Gemini, wildly comfortable. She’s very accommodating and ready to meet your every need. Lucky you), “Jordan” (with her sensual back and unerring grace, it’s no wonder she is constantly seen with a bevy of very attentive suitors), and… ah… you’ll Covet them all!
And how did the name “Covet” come to be?
Here is the history, or as they say at Covet “the herstory”:
“The concept of Covet was conceived in a feverish state, quite literally, by one of the company’s founders and owners, Lynne Carroll.
In the midst of a bad case of the flu, Lynne was struggling with a 103 temperature. Knocked flat on her back, unable to eat, work, walk her dogs, read, sleep, or even watch TV, devoid of any of the necessary and typical distractions of daily life, a pure torture for someone of her highly active nature, Lynne stared at the ceiling in a hot and uncomfortable state of boredom. Floating before her third eye, she envisioned a furniture company that offered a textile driven line with a strong sense of purpose. A furniture company that provided progressively hip, cool coverings. Textiles that would appeal to a fashion forward clientele.
“I really, really, long for…” Lynne sighed, tossing and turning with desire.
“I really, really, wish I had…” she murmured into her sweaty pillow.
Filled with a lust that bordered on sin for furniture that met her every need, Lynne’s eyes glazed over with despair.
“I…I…I…Covet!” she hollered.
“Eureka! I’ve got it!” Lynne shouted to no one in particular as she leapt out of bed and promptly stumbled over her two black labs, Jane and Lulu, who were patiently waiting for their mistress to come to her senses and feed them.
“Covet! Covet! Covet!” she cried while hitting the speed dial button on her cell phone.
“Covet! Covet! Covet!” Lynne yelled into the phone at her ex-husband, Dan Carroll, who was still her business partner.
“Lynne, is that you?” asked Dan.
“Covet! Covet! Covet!” Lynne replied.
“What is it that you covet?” Dan politely inquired, for he was accustomed to Lynne’s spontaneous outbursts after ten plus years of marriage. “I’d be glad to get it for you, honey.”
“Furniture!” she managed to sputter.
“Yes, of course you do, you’re an interior designer,” said Dan agreeably.
“No, no, no!” Lynne cried in frustration.
“You don’t like furniture? Are you feeling alright?”
“No, I’m not…I mean yes, I am… I mean, no, I am sick but in a good way. Well, it’s not good because I feel so awful but it is good because I saw it. I totally saw it.” Lynne panted with the effort of communicating her vision. It’s not easy being very ill and highly creative in the same breath.
Jane and Lulu looked longingly at Lynne and then at their dog bowls. Was she ever going to get off the phone and feed them?
“What did you see?” asked Dan.
“Covet!” Lynne yelled. “Covet! Covet! Covet!”
She sank to the floor in exhaustion. She loved Dan but boy, could he be dense sometimes.
“Yes, I got that. You’re coveting something. That’s great. Good for you. But do you mind telling me what it is you covet?” asked Dan.
“It’s the name of our new furniture company. Covet. Because we understand that people actually buy furniture based on textiles. That people long for cool and progressive coverings. And we can provide that. Covet. That’s us.”
Lynne could barely speak above a whisper as she rested her feverish cheek against the cool, cork floor. The dogs sniffed at her nervously. Lulu nudged Lynne in the crotch with her cold, wet nose.
“Covet?” Dan slowly repeated, not exactly sure if that’s what he heard. “The name of our new furniture company?”
“Yes. Exactly. Covet,” said Lynne.
She closed her eyes with relief. She had delivered the message from on high. Her mission had been accomplished. Her task completed. Lynne had communicated her vision and now she could rest.
“Attaboy,” murmured Lynne. “ I knew you wouldn’t let me down.”
“Covet! Covet! Covet!” Dan cried. “Lynne, honey, I’m sorry, I gotta go. I gotta call Clif.
Dan quickly hit the speed dial button to call Clif Reynolds, his childhood friend and business associate.
“Covet! Covet! Covet!” Dan shouted into the phone at Clif when he answered.
“Dan, is that you?” asked Clif.
“Covet! Covet! Covet!” responded Dan breathlessly.
“What is it that you covet?” Clif politely inquired, for he was accustomed to Dan’s spontaneous outbursts after forty plus years of friendship. Clif privately hoped it wasn’t something foolish like his neighbor’s wife.
“Textiles! Specialty coverings! I…Covet…sofas!” Dan yelled.
“You covet your neighbor’s sofa?” asked Clif a little confused but more than a little relieved because having a crush on someone’s sofa was easier to deal with than having a crush on someone who wasn’t your special someone.
“No…I mean yes…I mean… Covet! That’s the name of our new furniture company that Lynne and I are going to do. And you, too. Because you’re going to build it. The furniture, I mean. And if you build it, they will come!” said Dan triumphantly being a huge, huge fan of the movie “Field of Dreams” which he had seen about twenty-two times.
Now, coincidentally (can you say synchronicity? Sure you can, I knew you could, just not after a couple of martinis) Clif happened to own a furniture manufacturing company.
And the rest, as they say, is history. Or herstory. Or someone’s story. Except the story never ends.
It just goes on and on and on.
Just like life.
Lynne, Dan, and Clif formed their new furniture company, Covet, and made a covenant to build beautiful and intelligently designed furniture with fashion forward coverings that they would share with their global community.
After that prophetic phone call, Clif hung up the phone and turned his attention to driving his brand new, red sports car bought in the midst of his mid-life crisis. As he raised his eyes to the horizon, out of nowhere a large, flat bed trailer was careening towards him. Clif quickly turned the wheel. The car shot towards the embankment…
When it comes to setting up your outdoor patio for the summer, remember that a great way to transform your space into a getaway is by adding luxuries that remind you of that trip to Mexico. Adding a bar to your deck is a fun way to lighten the mood and bring you and your guests to the tropics. B&I Direct Imports offers the very best in furniture and accessories for your home. From antiqued hardware to the great bamboo and wicker tiki bars you see here.
By adding a tiki bar to your patio you are definitely choosing a specific style for which you want your space to reflect. Make sure that when purchasing a tiki bar your other furnishings reflect the style of the bar. Nice modern teak furnishings with crisp white seat cushions may not be the direction you want to go when incorpotrating a tiki bar. Try adding painted wood furniture, bamboo seating and color color color! You’ve purchased a tiki bar for a reason so go crazy and get inspired.
Now if you have the room for the tiki gazebo shown above go for it. This particular piece creates a focal point in your back yard and it draws people into it for a more intimate conversation. This also makes a nice hideaway during family BBQ’s so when your guests start driving you nuts you can sneak away for a breather. This piece is also a great option for those with children. The gazebo instantly becomes a fort or castle without the shiny primary colored plastics which have become all to poular these days. A childs imagination will bring the back yard to far away places.
Looking for a bar that is a little bit more reserved or modern? This piece made of bamboo and featuring a fossil stone top would make a great addition to any back yard, porch, patio or deck. Very sleek and stylish it houses drawers and door storage as well as a bamboo cutting board. Dimensions for the piece are 74 x 25 x 44
You can find a lot from B&I but what we love here at YFL is outdoor bars. Keep them stocked and ready cause you never know who might come over!
Get Inspired by this outdoor 3D animation and incorporate B&I direct into your Home

When you are searching for solid wood end tables, Coffee tables, Accent tables and unique dining pieces Tucker Robbins is the first place to look. Not many people can say they have a three ball dining table like the one below and even less people can say that they have a table which has been inspired by global culture and the life of Tucker Robbins. Robbins has proven his passion for furniture design by creating pieces which display true craftsmanship and creativity.
The Tucker Robbins goal is to bring the spirit and craft from the tribal cottage industry to contemporary life. This Dialog with ancient peoples, spanning continents and centuries, brings insight into what we have forgotten about today’s furniture industry. The Tucker Robbins furniture line also brings to life a new sense of “green” living by incorporating salvaged materials and working with the people who not only manage the forests where wood is grown but also care for it.
The Tucker Robbins look is that of refined rusticity. This means he’s added a polished edge given to a piece that has been reclaimed from an ancient village. Tuckers design process revolves around the idea of collaboration and exploration into the possibilities of the material and form of the piece. This is the approach he takes when working with a client on a custom piece. He starts at his studio on Long Island and will introduce you to many objects from all over the world that have influenced his creative journey.
Then, when working on a custom piece for a client he will walk with you through 16,000 square feet of beautiful material both recycled and carefully harvested from all over the world. Woods Tucker Robbins uses in his pieces include satinwood, acacia, nadun, kumbuk, narra and mountain pine. These are all extremely rare woods whose natural beauty have been aged and dried in order to create interesting furnishings for your home.
Tucker Robbin’s truley does work with the people whose homelands he is inspired from. The Toraja women of Suluwesi, Indonesia used this goblet shape seen in the table above for their mortar which serves as a pedestal base for the round table. He’s inspired by jewelry and homes, and many other interesting objects which he incorporates into all his work both catalog and custom.

To truly appreciate a Maria Yee piece, one must understand the person behind it. Her personal experiences shape everything from the furniture’s design concept to its creation. Maria’s passion, struggles and triumphs imbue each piece with a vitality and intensity that speak volumes without saying a word. A child of China’s Cultural Revolution, Maria witnessed first hand the havoc wreaked by the fanatic anti-intellectual radicals. At age 15, she was sent to work in a rock quarry and her parents were imprisoned. Inquisitive but quiet, she enjoyed riding her bicycle and swimming in the Pearl River. While her childhood dream was to be a physicist, her father, a professor of architecture, sparked her early interest in design. When the Cultural Revolution began in 1966, the radicals imprisoned her father and later sent him to a tea farm. Her mother, a school teacher, was placed under house arrest in the elementary school where she taught. She was later sent to work at a pig farm. Maria was taken from her family and forced to work in the rock quarry. Only 15 years old, the quiet girl’s creative spirit was cruelly snuffed out. In its place, only the spirit to survive remained.
The artistic merit of Maria Yee’s furniture goes beyond beautiful lines and elegant shapes. Every item is handcrafted with sophisticated joinery techniques, handed down through the ages and refined for a modern manufacturing environment, with no nails or screws marring the integrity of the raw materials. This makes every piece unique and personal. To create her solid bamboo furnishings, Maria Yee further developed her BreathingJoinery™ specifically for BambooTimbre™. By handcrafting the pieces in pure joinery without nails or screws, hazards such as warping, cracking, splitting, shrinking and rattling associated with traditional bamboo furniture are eliminated.
Keeping with her commitment to offering new, unique options in home furnishings, Maria Yee developed her Air Frame™ and BEST™ joinery techniques to create exceptionally strong solid bamboo pieces that boast a clean, contemporary look. Maria Yee pioneered EcoLuxury™ – luxury that is ecologically responsible. We abide by our core belief that if we take from the earth, we should give back to the earth. Maria Yee respects Earth’s natural resources and is sensitive to its dwindling reserves. Select products are handcrafted with 100 percent Forest Stewardship Council-certified hardwood, and other pieces use only hardwood species which are responsibly grown and selectively harvested. As an alternative to fast disapearing hardwood, Maria Yee developed rapidly renewable BambooTimbre™ and RidgeBamboo™.
The company is dedicated to protecting the earth by innovating green manufacturing processes and adheres to strict recycling principles. Furthermore, energy conservation is a top priority in both the production and design.

Shima Furniture is a brain-child of Hans Morsbach’s first love, forestry. The wealth of trees and the beauty of his 450 acre farm in Cazenovia, Wisconsin inspired Morsbach to share this beauty with other folks. He set out to manufacture furniture made from his trees for people to enjoy. Hans Morsbach is also the author of a most widely read book about forestry called Common Sense Forestry.
While oak, ash and walnut are the most commonly used woods in their designs, Shima use’s about 20 other species. Their trees are harvested in an environmentally conscious and sustainable way. All wood is harvested on U.S. land, they never use rain forest wood.
Many of the furniture designs are conceived by Shima’s Amish neighbors. Their religion discourages commercial enterprise and recognition, gratitude and accolades of their creations. Nevertheless, Shima has honored the Amish with the name of their company (try spelling “Shima” backwards). They would like to give more credit to the Amish craftsmen, however, with all due respect, their good Lord won’t let them. Just the same, they would be delighted to talk with you if you choose to visit Shima in Wisconsin.
Laser technology enables Shima to produce precise and lasting inlays. Much of their furniture is adorned with a floral design which they adapted from a traditional Amish quilt. Laser technology enables them to make inlays from any design suggested by customers, which is a great custom option for those who want to put their own artistic stamp on their Shima furniture.
When Hans Morsbach became interested in cultivating trees and managing small woodlands, he searched for a good how-to manual. He never found one, so he decided to write his own. Based on his subsequent experience, combining deep research into the academic literature on forestry with his successes and failures as a small-scale commercial tree farmer, the result is Common Sense Forestry, an indispensable reference for anyone who owns or wants to own wooded property.
Morsbach is an unabashed nature lover as well as a businessman, and well understands the essential importance of a long-term approach to sustainable forest management. In this highly readable and entertaining text, the author offers a comprehensive look at managing existing woodlands by creating, and later maintaining, forests that promote biodiversity while providing an income stream. This comprehensive examination of sustainable forestry includes everything from choosing land to beginning a forest through seeding and transplanting, from pruning and thinning to harvesting trees, from debates over herbicides and clear cutting to working with professional foresters, from business strategies to tax planning.
