Furniture Color Trends

Metallic hues like gold, silver, bronze and copper are becoming more and more popular in the home as well as in fashion design. This unique piece from Currey and Co. has artistic flare that will draw anyone’s attention. The shape and style are modeled after ancient Chinese furniture.

Wood tones that feature large grainy textures are taking place of the popular java or espresso tones. Stained furniture often means that you are buying anti-”green” home furnishings. Unless the piece has been stained or sealed with a water based treatment the furniture can not be considerd eco-friendly. So beware the green washing and look to more natural tone like the one seen here from Oggetti.

Orange is very popular right now as are reds and other warm tones. Warm toned furniture might be bold or loud but when placed in the right space with other color appropriate furnishings and wall color it can be right on the money. This tall sideboard in orange from Red Egg has so much personality that your other furniture will be jealous. Now I’m sure you are wondering what other colors you’d incorporate with orange and the answer is: blues, browns, white or hot pink. Think FUN FUN FUN!

Go Green! In this case we don’t only mean Eco-Friendly but we mean the color. I know that adding green furniture to a space might be a little on the nose but the color is hot this fall and will make a great impact on your earthy interior. Using colors from nature is a perfect way to bring the outside in and when you mix greens with browns like in this coffee table from CR Currin it makes a great statement.

My Favorite furniture Color trend is BLUE! This desk from A. P. Industries has an oceanic feel and great sensibility. Now I know what you’re thinking, “That piece belongs in a boys room.” well blue furniture isn’t just for boys any more. Adding an occasional piece like this to your space gives you a sense of artistic expression with out going over the top. Simple is better and when working with colored furniture that is key to a great overall design.

The Terrence Sofa above, can be ordered in a variety of different sizes and finishes. Constructed from a wooden frame with different density polyurethane foam padding not only is this the best seat in the house but it also holds your drink for you. The seat cushions are made from non-deformable polyurethane which means they take ware and tare well. The back cushions are a reversible feather mix and the piece can be upholstered in leather or removable fabric. The handy dandy ledge on the back of the piece can be made from either dark oak or walnut and is a perfect option for those of us living in small spaces. Why place the soda on an end table when you can put down on the back of the couch.

Designed by Sergio Brioschi this wooden sideboard, which is available in two versions, offers a unique storage piece for any modern dining space. Shown on the left is the high boy version with 4 hanging doors and 2 inside drawers. On the right the low version with 4 hanging doors and 1 inside drawer, offers the feeling of a classic buffet. This piece come complete with wooden baseboard and handles. Finish options include dark oak, walnut, mat or my personal favorite, high gloss lacquer.

Dining rooms are a place where memories are made. Whether you are sitting down to a meal with your family or playing a rather intense game of hold-em with the guys, your dining room is the place you go to first. Your dining room should say something about you and your personal taste. Larger tables mean more people can play the game while smaller tables suggest that the home has a small but growing family residing with in it. When you choose your dining table you have to think about these things. Are you going to be entertaining? Should you maybe consider a table that has leafs for a more transitional piece? When purchasing upholstered chairs make sure you learn about the construction first, there is nothing worse than sitting down to eat and sinking an extra two or three inches.

When looking for a side board or buffet you have to take size and scale into consideration first. Then think about the style you are looking for. Are you more of a traditionalist or is sleek and modern in your future? Whatever you decide Dovetail will have what you are looking for.

Johnathon Adler and Barbies Malibu Dream House

Remember when you were a child and it was your birthday or Christmas? Remember finding that one oblong present wrapped with a bow because it was extra special? Tearing back the wrapping to reveal a pink box with white script boasting the name on every little girls lips, Barbie. The original blonde bombshell was your favorite toy; due mostly to all the great accessories she required. Well now Barbie is no longer sitting her behind on plastic, shes moved up in the world thanks to the creative mind of Johnathan Adler. Though the interiors may have changed the house is still all Malibu.

Adler has combined alot of his own furniture designs along with pieces made custom for this particular project. The interiors respresent alot of key design ideas which Adler incorporates into his work on a regular basis. By keeping with-in his groovy mind set as well as mixing in classic Barbie colors like pink and orange, Adler has been able to bring the famous doll’s pad to life.

Now even though we love the work and the Interiors make us swoon we have to be realistic when it comes to incorporating this style into our own homes. One of my favorite things to do on a sunny summer afternoon is relax with a good book and a nice cold drink. The Bethany Arm Chair, above, is a great chair to kick back and relax in. Made of solid walnut and upholstered in black leather, which has been treated and is so comfortable and supple. This piece says high style but is offered at a great mid market price.
