Finding Your Sofa is Like Finding Your Prince Charming

In my experience as a retailer and consumer you have to kiss a lot of toads before you find the perfect sofa! There have been countless occasions where I have seen frustrated clients walk into our store looking to have the process of buying their sofa quickly over with. At our store we try to change the mindset and engage our clients in the process of elimination. Our goal is to extract all the toads, so we can reach the prince. Some of the questions we ask that help narrow down the vast array of options are:
1) What is your favorite style?
Organic, Modern, traditional, country, slipcover2) What is the scale or size you desire?
Small, Average, Oversized, (Sofa, love seat, sectional)3) Do you prefer a back that is:
Scattered pillows, fitted back cushions or an upholstered back4) Do you prefer arm styles that:
Are High and same height as back, mid range arms or no arms 5) Do you prefer a skirted bottom or an upholstered base with exposed feet? Once you have come to some conclusions as to what the overall shape of your sofa should be, details that follow are less overwhelming. As you slowly find your prince use the same practical questions to further pare down the abundance of options we get over whelmed with. For example:1) Do you prefer printed fabric, solids or both?
2) Do you prefer fringe. Piping or a seamless edge?
3) If you have feet or an arm with wood exposed, what is your favorite finish?
The breakdown of questions we ask may seem basic, yet it does help us to assist our clients in finding what they love and finally meeting their "prince!"

Question: I have family coming to stay with us in July from overseas and we have no furniture for our quest bedroom. We started looking around and everything we like is special order and takes 4 to 6 weeks. Our question is, do we just get something cheap for the time being? Or, wait for something we really like? Thanks, "impatient furniture shoppers".
Answer: Thanks for a good question. We run into this problem all the time with clients that are shopping in our store. They are often surprised that most quality products are special order and cant be inventoried. Higher end furniture usually offers many custom choices from different wood finishes to 100"s of fabric choices so it's impossible for stores to guess exactly what ever client might want. We suggest that instead of rushing to purchase something that you aren't satisfied with buy your mattress and nice bedding for the time being and make the room as inviting as possible until your ideal product comes in. The other suggestion is to switch rooms with your guests until your new furniture arrives, its always fun to switch things up on occasion.
